Let the games begin. The New York Mets have signed pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training.
Matsuzaka will compete against recently signed left-hander John Lannan, and right-hander Jenrry Mejia for the opportunity to be the Mets’ 5th starter.
Dice-K pitched to a 3-3 record and a 4.42 ERA with the Mets late last season. After his first 3 starts with the team, Matsuzaka’s ERA was up to 10.95 but he settled down, and posted a 1.37 ERA over his final 4 outings.
