The New York Mets threw their annual kid’s holiday party this afternoon at Citi Field. Daniel Murphy played Santa Claus while Zack Wheeler dressed up as an elf. The media was in attendance and got a chance to speak to Sandy Alderson. Here are some of the main things he talked about:
The New York Mets will probably not go after Masahiro Tanaka, even though the new posting rules favor the lower payroll teams. Sandy said they are going to sign a pitcher, but most likely to a minor league deal to compete with the young guys.
It sounds as if Ruben Tejada will get another shot to start the season as the Mets starting shortstop. Sandy explained that since he improved other parts of the team, he would give Tejada another shot to prove himself. He noted that if he does add a shortstop, it would be through a trade.
Alderson is still trying to trade first baseman Ike Davis. Sandy is talking to numerous teams about Davis, but there are less teams interested than there once was.
